Title: Special Procedure Technologist-Safety Sensitive Department:
Cardiac Cath Lab Reporting Relationships: The Special Procedure
Technologist is under the direct supervision of the Cath Lab
Clinical Lead. Job Summary: The Special Procedure Technologist
performs invasive and interventional, cardiac and special
procedures for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment of patients.
The technologist works effectively with patients and physicians and
maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental
personnel. Recognizes the purpose of employment is to prioritize
the patient as number one and to put forth the utmost quality as a
technologist. The technologist will perform all necessary
procedures on patients in all age groups. Job Duties: Performs all
invasive and interventional, cardiac and special procedures to
include neonatal, pediatric, and adult care according to department
policy and procedure. Complete studies in a timely and efficient
manner utilizing downtime to assist others where needed. Organizes
workload during high volume to expedite patient care and
communicates to other technologist all pending exams and any
pertinent information. Maintains and implements current skills and
knowledge, policy and procedure specific to radiology examinations
and procedures. Maintains specialized equipment (Axiom Artis,
Angiojet, ACT, Avoximeter, Balloon Pump, etc.) and utilizes
knowledge of radiology equipment. Assists the physician in
performing radiology procedures. Promotes positive relationships at
the department level and discusses concerns with the supervisor and
presents the department in a positive manner to other employees and
staff. Handles equipment in a safe and appropriate manner within
guidelines and policies of WRMC and the Radiology department.
Maintains clean work area and follows equipment cleaning policies.
Willingly assist with procedures in any area of radiology when
needed. Check with co-workers during downtime for need of
assistance. Maintains supplies with a minimum inventory and
develops new methods of supply utilization. Follow the “on-call”
policy by responding to call back within acceptable time-frame.
Follows attendance and tardy policies. Follows WRMC dress code and
appearance policy. Participates in required hospital and department
in-services and meetings. Follows safety and infection control
policies. Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications: Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiology. Must be ARRT
registered and Licensed in the State of Arkansas. Must have BLS and
ACLS upon hire or 30 days post hire date. Training and Experience :
Must obtain registry within six months of hire. Job Knowledge:
Experience with Arkansas Department of Health requirements and a
clear understanding of hospital operations is required. Essentials:
Must be able to report to work fit for duty and free of any adverse
effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, prescription
medication, and/or alcohol. Must be able to effectively communicate
both orally and in writing with other individuals. Prepares for
diagnostic testing by verification of physician order, verification
of patient identity, communication with nursing unit when necessary
for order clarification and/or patient transport needs. Thoroughly
explains the procedure to the patient and/or family and answers
questions regarding the test to alleviate anxiety and prepare
patient for test. Obtains the highest quality studies possible
following department protocol for physician interpretation.
Maintain current BLS, ACLS, ARRT and State of Arkansas
credentialing licensure status. Physical Demands : Job
responsibilities require a considerable amount of physical work.
The individual will be required to assist with lifting and moving
patients, pushing of carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment; and
lifting or pushing of up to 300 pounds. Workday requires frequent
walking, stooping, bending, and moderate degrees of stooping and
repetitive hand and wrist movement. Work requires dexterity,
hand/eye coordination, and physical ability to push and operate
medical equipment. The individual must also be able to maneuver
throughout the halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to
hospital emergencies.
