The step-down unit is a multidisciplinary care area designed to
provide monitoring and care for patients requiring more than what
is available from regular medical-surgical or telemetry units. The
unit consists of private beds that facilitate bedside and
tele-monitoring of cardiac and pulmonary patients. Staffing ratios
are designed to ensure quality patient care and safety, typically
ranging from 1:4 to 1:6. The registered nurse will work closely
with an interdisciplinary team, including physical therapy,
respiratory services, and pharmacy. Participation in process
improvements to ensure high-quality care and customer satisfaction
is expected. Candidates should have the ability to work during
holidays as the unit has specific staffing requirements during peak
times. Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to work weekends
as needed is also important. Strong telemetry and IV start skills
are essential for success in this position. Candidates must also
have experience in trauma settings. Only candidates meeting the
experience and certification requirements will be considered for
this position. Travelers are expected to comply with all
regulations and standards set forth for travel nursing assignments.
